d.l.adams

Reader. Story Teller. World Builder.

d.l.adams is a music lover, a reader and collector of books, and a museum-membership-holder.

d.l.adams has always been a writer. Throughout their schooling, they wrote and performed poetry at open mics and local events. A proud child of Mexican immigrants and a first generation college graduate, they began teaching in the fall of 2020. Writing continued to be a creative and emotional outlet while they taught reading and writing to young children. During this time, they transitioned into writing flash fiction and short stories. Though working with children allowed them to remain young at heart and constantly curious about the world, they left teaching in 2024 to focus on writing full-time.

Currently, they are an MFA in Writing candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They serve as the Literature Editor for F Newsmagazine, the school’s student-run newspaper, and are always on the look-out for work that is striking and weird.

Incapable of picking a genre or style, they explore new ways to tell a good story. Inspired by spoken word, they believe writing shouldn’t be limited to the page and, therefore, seek novel and alternative ways to share stories. Simultaneously, they are working on their debut novel.
